01

Context

I was asked to validate that a brand new app for people with intimate health care needs matched a real market need, and to design the user journey that delivered on it.

02

My role

UX lead: User experience consultant responsible for the digital user experience - and for translating what we learned from users into decisions the business could act on.

Interim Product Owner: Identifying features, managing the backlog, evaluating deliveries, and stakeholder management - keeping the business case and the roadmap aligned.

03

The challenge

The project began just before covid-19 hit the world. Suddenly, everyone, including myself, had to figure out and adapt to new ways of working and collaborating. Working entirely at home while at the same time taking care of the family and schooling kids at home called for some serious time management.

The context of the app (health sector) was new for me. I am driven by knowledge and new experiences, so this was rewarding, but also challenging. Talking to potential customers about their experiences and gathering their input on the business case and prototype called for new methods and, in general, new approaches to validating whether the product fit the market.

04

Process

  • Understanding the context, challenges and market fit
  • Iterative design process (design, test, learn and improve)

05

Outcome

UX lead: the user journey and prototype were validated with real customers, translating research into product decisions the business could commit to.

The app was available in 3 countries.

Interim Product Owner: a prioritised roadmap and backlog aligned with the business case, ready for grooming, planning and release.

Learnings

This entire period that I spent on this project was learning: learning to deal with covid-19 challenges, learning to perform interviews with potential customers within the health sector, learning to deal with a complex project setup.

On top of that I got confidence in standing in front and taking responsibility when “the ship starts drowning”. I also learned that a dedicated and motivated team can turn any project upside down within a short period of time.
